Nokia has launched Cognitive Operations (CO), a new platform combining mission-critical communications, edge computing and AI to help mining, construction, public safety and defence organisations operate more safely and reliably in challenging field environments.

The platform provides operational teams with real-time intelligence through AI-assisted operations, 3D digital twins, video analytics, predictive maintenance and autonomous safety monitoring. By combining these capabilities with resilient hybrid wireless connectivity, Nokia aims to improve visibility, reduce downtime and strengthen operational resilience.

At the core of the platform is the Cognitive Edge Node (CEN), a rugged network and edge computing system designed for vehicles and remote sites. It combines advanced connectivity, AI-driven networking and GPU-accelerated computing to bring intelligence closer to where operations take place.

Nokia is launching CO across three key applications: mining, emergency services and defence. For mining, the platform provides resilient communications and AI capabilities through on-premises or Microsoft Azure deployments. For emergency services, response vehicles can operate as connected intelligence nodes, sharing live situational data and video analytics. In defence, the platform supports distributed tactical networks, enabling real-time intelligence, sensor fusion, threat detection and resilient communications across 5G, tactical radio and satellite networks.

Through Cognitive Operations, Nokia is extending AI and edge intelligence into critical field environments where reliable connectivity, rapid decision-making and operational resilience are essential.
