FQM Suspends Operations After Fatal Accident at Zambia’s Sentinel Mine

First Quantum Minerals has temporarily suspended operations in the area of a fatal accident at its Trident project in Zambia, following the death of an employee.

The incident, which involved a dump truck, occurred at the Sentinel copper mine—one of the Canadian firm’s flagship assets in the region.

According to the company, operations in the affected area will remain on hold until it is declared safe to resume. Local authorities have been notified, and an internal investigation is underway to determine the cause of the accident.

This tragedy marks the fifth reported fatality at First Quantum’s Zambian sites since 2023, and the third at the Sentinel pit alone.
