SANY Group has delivered its 1,000th electric excavator, marking another milestone in the construction and mining industry’s transition toward electrified and intelligent equipment solutions.
The company also confirmed that its 5G remote-controlled excavators are now commercially deployed, while its unmanned paving roller fleet and integrated smart mining and port solutions have entered operational service.
With annual research and development investment exceeding RMB 6 billion, SANY said it is accelerating its transformation from a traditional equipment manufacturer into an AI-driven and robotics-focused technology company.
According to SANY, the shift is not only about replacing conventional power sources with electric systems, but also about integrating intelligent technologies that improve efficiency, reduce emissions and enhance operator safety.
The company stated that remote-control and autonomous technologies are designed to address some of the industry’s biggest operational challenges, including hazardous working environments and the physical limitations associated with on-site equipment operation.
After nearly a decade of development, SANY introduced the SY550HD 5G remote-controlled excavator, designed to deliver low-latency, high-precision remote operation. Using 5G connectivity and AI-based algorithms, the system reportedly achieves stable latency of 120–140 milliseconds, enabling real-time control from distances of up to 8,500 km.
The excavator supports public, private and hybrid network configurations, allowing remote operation across different regions and network environments.
SANY said its proprietary 3D motion sensing and depth-recognition technologies, combined with intelligent loading assistance systems, recreate real-time site conditions for operators and support precision operations in complex environments such as mines, remote project sites and emergency response applications.
The system also incorporates AI-enabled safety technologies, including personnel detection, collision avoidance and equipment health monitoring, supported by real-time point cloud data and live video analysis.
Looking ahead, SANY plans to continue investing in electric powertrain technologies, AI-assisted operations, autonomous construction systems, digital platforms and integrated mining equipment solutions to expand large-scale commercial deployment.
The company’s larger mining equipment portfolio currently includes the 300-tonne-class electric-drive SY2600E hydraulic mining excavator and the 200-tonne-class SY2000H model.
