Andru Mining recently added a historic new machine to its fleet with the delivery of a centenary-grey D8 Caterpillar dozer from Barloworld Equipment on the first of December , 2025.
The grey finish pays homage to the first equipment Caterpillar produced in 1925. As Barloworld Equipment Southern Africa CEO Andronicca Masemola noted, Caterpillar switched its machines to the now-iconic road yellow colour in 1938.
This dozer is part of a limited edition of about 75 centenary-grey D8 machines worldwide, and Andru Mining’s unit is the first to arrive in Africa. The company, which has maintained a Caterpillar fleet for over 40 years, requested to receive one of these special units to celebrate its long-standing partnership with Barloworld.
In addition to the centenary dozer, Andru Mining also received a second D8 machine—the second of four D8 dozers acquired in November—to supplement its existing fleet of 26 D8 machines painted in the company’s signature blue colours.
With more than 140 Caterpillar machines in operation, including dozers, trucks, and excavators, Andru Mining continues to rely on the reliability and support provided by Barloworld Equipment. Finance Director Shonel Reddy said,
“We have faced, and resolved, many challenges together over the past 40 years, and break-downs often lead to break-throughs. We wanted to celebrate our partnership with Barloworld, who stand by us and make sure our ‘Cats’ keep purring, by receiving one of its special centenary-edition dozers.”
Craig Shepherd, national sales lead at Barloworld Equipment, highlighted the accessibility of Caterpillar’s major components, which simplifies repairs and reduces downtime. The company’s Rebuild Centre further ensures rapid replacement of parts, keeping machines operational.
Douglas Morris, head of sales and marketing at Barloworld Equipment, noted the high resale value of Caterpillar machines, which complements Andru Mining’s fleet management strategy. Plant and equipment director Joe Naicker added that the combination of machine reliability and Barloworld’s support will sustain their partnership into a fifth decade.
