RCR Mining Technologies has unveiled the Sealed Pan Feeder (SPF), a groundbreaking product that is set to redefine apron feeder technology in the industry.
By merging the robust features of an apron feeder with the sealing capabilities of a belt feeder, RCR has developed a two-in-one solution that offers advantages far beyond traditional apron feeders.
Both the RCR Sealed Pan Feeder and the RCR Apron Feeder feature low-maintenance designs that outperform market alternatives. The SPF shares over 90% of its components with the RCR Apron Feeder, ensuring durability while implementing key enhancements:
- Enhanced Performance: The SPF minimizes maintenance outages, boasting approximately 50% fewer outages and 39% less tool time over a 15-year lifespan compared to standard non-RCR apron feeders.
- Maximized Production: Reduced maintenance frequency and shorter outage durations directly contribute to increased ore throughput without necessitating larger or faster feeders.
- Cost Efficiency: By eliminating the need for dribble conveyors, the SPF offers more efficient operating costs while effectively addressing carry-back and leakage through its fully sealed and scrapable material-carrying surface.
Elia Khoury, RCR’s Head of Engineering, expressed excitement about launching this world-first, next-generation apron feeder, which is set to “revolutionize materials handling.”
The SPF has already demonstrated its value in the field, with Fortescue Metals Group Project Director Matthew Erceg-Hurn noting, “Having the Sealed Pan Feeders means we have a lot more uptime, which allows us to keep processing tonnes through the plant and generate more revenue instead of frequently stopping for maintenance.”
Recently showcased at MINExpo 2024 in Las Vegas, the Sealed Pan Feeder attracted considerable attention from industry leaders. Alister MacPherson, Head of Strategy, Growth & Innovation at RCR, described the interest as “phenomenal.”
Neville Kelly, RCR’s Business Development Manager, concluded, “With its superior design and proven benefits, the Sealed Pan Feeder signifies the future of apron feeder technology, enabling companies to maximize production, reduce costs, and streamline operations.”
