Ouster has signed a multimillion-dollar agreement to supply advanced 3D digital lidar sensors for Komatsu’s suite of autonomous machinery. The partnership aims to enhance safety, efficiency, and functionality in mining operations worldwide.

Komatsu will integrate Ouster’s REV7 series sensors—featuring both short- and long-range capabilities—into its autonomous equipment to replace older 2D lidar systems. The move will enable superior perception, improved navigation, and advanced collision avoidance, ultimately boosting productivity and reducing operational costs.

Ouster’s lidar systems also offer zone monitoring and receive routine firmware updates, enabling continuous improvement of Komatsu’s autonomy stack and accelerating the development of next-generation mining solutions.

“This technology delivers the range, spatial awareness, and durability needed to operate in harsh mining environments,” said Matt Reiland, Technical Director of Automation Innovation at Komatsu. “It’s a game-changer for performance and safety.”

Komatsu’s focus on autonomy is part of its broader commitment to zero harm, sustainability, and value creation for customers. This strategic partnership provides Komatsu with early access to Ouster’s upcoming innovations, positioning it to lead the way in mining automation.
