DRC Unveils New Mining Framework to Drive Economic Development

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has launched a revamped institutional framework for its mining sector, aiming to position it as a cornerstone of national development and economic growth.

The announcement was made during an official ceremony on Thursday, May 22, 2025, attended by key government leaders including Minister of Mines Kizito Pakabomba, Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Civil Service Jean-Pierre Lihau Ebua, and Secretary General of Mines Jacques Ramazani.

According to the Ministry of Mines, the new structure is designed to strengthen governance, streamline operations, and maximize the country’s vast mineral wealth. In a statement shared on the Ministry’s official X account, officials said the updated framework would “enable more efficient management of the DRC’s rich mining potential, boost public revenue, and transform the mining sector into a true engine of national development.”

The reform includes a detailed action plan that lays out strategic goals for overhauling the mining administration. This initiative is expected to enhance the implementation of public policy, improve transparency, and support sustainable and inclusive growth in one of Africa’s most resource-rich nations.

The move comes amid growing global demand for critical minerals, such as cobalt and copper, in which the DRC holds significant reserves. The government hopes the new framework will better position the country to capitalize on these resources while ensuring that local communities and the national economy benefit more equitably.
